Deconstructing Local Radio

Today's Pin-the-tail is about "Deconstructing Afternoon Edition," a popular call-in program on local AM1370. And my entry includes a couple of clicks leading to FAIR: Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting and, for lighter fare---The Onion.

By the way, in contrast to the advertisement-driven programming on AM1370, Bloomington's own Volunteer-powered WFHB (91.3 or 98.1FM) is podcasting their Daily Local News...where the mission of the WFHB News and Public Affairs Department is stated as:

Mission: Our news programming exists to provide an open forum for the community to explore issues and events affecting life in south central Indiana and beyond. We believe this should include open media access for all community members, with a focus on programming that considers and includes perspectives of people of color and strives to challenge cultural and intellectual assumptions.

The WFHB News Department relies on the collective efforts of more than seventy-five community volunteers contributing to our programming as reporters, correspondents, show hosts, producers, and engineers. Through community support our news department has grown into a thriving independent media center, empowering people from all walks of life to be active producers of independent media instead of passive consumers.
