Dear readers and friends,

I've made it a policy at The Bloomington Alternative to ask for financial support sporadically, and for it to always be low-key. I don't predict the Alternative will die without your money. Nor do I preach how great and indispensable it is.*

So it is with this year's ask, as the fundraisers frame this exercise. The Alternative is not dependent on reader cash. But the support readers have always provided really does help and is greatly appreciated.

My personal situation, however, is dependent on cash flow, which isn't ideal these days and leads me to announce my availability as an editorial consultant for hire. I teach and specialize in research, writing and editing and will consider any project or assignment from any individual, organization or business.

This is not a new direction for me, but rather a rejuvenation of an old professional pursuit. In the late 1990s and early 2000s I worked freelance as an editorial consultant for a variety of clients, including citizen groups, state government agencies, academics and private business.

Please let me know if you have any work, contacts or ideas. That too would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know about editorial work: editor@BloomingtonAlternative.com

Thanks for all your support through the years.

Sincerely,

Steven Higgs

* I will mention, however, that a freelance piece I wrote for NUVO last year on factory farms in Indiana won first place for environmental coverage from the Society of Professional Journalists. The year before I won second in the same category.
